Antique Coptic Silver Cross Pendant with Lava Rock, Wood and Pyrite Beads_DSCHUBBA
Christian Ethiopians have worn Coptic crosses made from coin silver for over 1600 years. This cross was cut directly from a silver coin called a "Maria Theresa" thaler, currency of the Austrian empire. After the potential of hundreds of years of wear and worship you can still see the outline and
details of the face, script, and eagle (on reverse side). The "Maria Theresa" thaler was first minted in 1741, but since these were made over a long period of time it is hard to determine the exact age of the cross. Wood beads, round 6 mm and 8 mm pyrite beads, lava rock oblong shaped beads,
sterling silver double round hook and jump ring clasp. Total length including clasp is 18".
